Community Message - November 2, 2025
Hello Blackbird Community!
We have had a busy few weeks here at Assikinack! Fall Fair! Fall Dance! Field Trips! Sports! our Character Assembly! Hallowe’en excitement and of course Blue Jays fever! So many great things to celebrate together!
A huge thank you to our OPHEA team for organizing our activities! Such amazing events to bring us together and have some fun!
Thank you to our School Council and parent volunteers for putting together the Goody Grams and Glow items for the dance!
Thank you as always to our families for supporting our events at Assikinack! We are working on a Newsletter to add to our website so that all families can access the information provided, for now here is an update for new things happening or coming up!
School Council
Just a reminder of our School Council Meeting tomorrow evening at the school at 6:00 pm! Come on out and be a part of a great community! All are welcome!
Our council chair has sent out an email asking for agenda items, but the email did not get out, so feel free to come on over!
Report Cards and Student Led Conferences
Report cards come home this Friday November 7.
Next week from November 10 - 14, specifically Thursday November 13 in the evening, and Friday November 14th, being a PA Day, staff will be holding student led conferences/interviews. If families have not yet signed up, please reach out to your child’s educator and set up a date and time to meet to share about your child.
Safety Notes
Safety for students and staff is our priority. Thank you for continuing to minimize having extra adults/people on our yard when dropping off in the mornings! We are so appreciative of your vigilance in this matter! This keeps everyone safe and staff are able to do their yard duties appropriately, and to the best of their ability. Our construction fences are down now, so access to the yard is much easier. We appreciate all families/adults waving farewell to their children from the edge of the yard, allowing students to walk into the yard safely! Staff are always on duty to keep everyone safe and get students to where they need to go.
Volunteers and Visitors
Volunteers, please remember to sign in and out when working in the school. Visitors and Volunteers MUST ALWAYS wear an ID badge available in the office. We are also working to minimize the presence of parents and volunteers in instructional areas during instruction time unless working in a particular classroom.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact us and we can direct you in the process. You can also access the SCDSB website to get information on volunteering. Stay tuned for further information on this.
French Immersion Night - Tuesday November 4, 2025 - 6:00 pm.
Our French Immersion Information Night is this Tuesday November 4, 2025 - at 6:00 at Warnica P.S for families of our Year 2 Kindergarten students interested in registering for French Immersion next year.
Registration for Grade 1 French Immersion this December
The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) offers French Immersion (FI) at select schools throughout Simcoe County beginning in Grade 1. The goal of the FI program is to enable students to communicate in French with a high level of proficiency, enabling them to function with ease in both French and English. Upon graduation from the program, students will communicate in French with confidence in a wide variety of real-life situations.
The Grade 1 FI online application form for students entering Grade 1 in 2026-27 will be available starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1 until 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12. Entry into the FI program is determined through a digitally randomized lottery system.

High school information events for Grade 8 students
Is your child starting Grade 9 next year? High school information events will take place in person this winter! Student leaders and staff at the school will give an overview of what’s new and what to expect. Learn about courses offered, as well as information about teams and clubs. Please visit the SCDSB website at scdsb.on.ca/secondary/planning_for_high_school/high_school_information_nights to find details on your high school’s info night, and contact the school directly for more information.
2025-26 SCDSB School Climate Survey
During the month of November, all students in Grades 4 to 12 will be asked to complete an anonymous and confidential online SCDSB school climate survey regarding how they feel about their school. Participants will not be asked to provide their name or other identifying information. More information and sample versions of the student survey can be found on the SCDSB website. We will be working on completing this survey over the next few weeks here at Assikinack!
